Week 7: Concept presentation
Class work: Group presentation.
This week was group presentation week. Lucy and kate came up with the name "planted" for the group, which was quite appropriate for the project. Our group presentation went seemingly well, it was in depth and demonstrated and explored all of the thinking and preparation behind our topic. However mark was not convinced on the technical nature of the design and did not think that the grass over the square ottoman shape would achieve a succesful result. He suggested that we make a mock up of the form to test the aesthetic and functional quality of the design, as it may be a completely different solution in form then on paper. The group decided to create a mock up of the furniture in the holidays.

Week 6: Synography and concept development.
Week 6: Synography and concept development.
Lecture: Synography.
A lecture on synography was given to the class this week. The lecture was extremely thought provoking as the lecturer was able to relate the content to the context of our project. The lecturer commented on the group Rimini Protokol who were a group of artists who believed in synography and worked to alter peoples perspectives through the interaction with scenarios and spaces. This directly related to our project as we are looking attempt to alter the perception of the viewer through the objects in our exhibit by challenging them and presenting them with ways in which the plants can be brought into their everyday lives in new ways. The lecture pointed out that the actors place of work is not always in the theatre it may be in the urban setting in order to offer alternate perspectives. The open house event, is performative it is an event that is temporary in nature in essence we present an urban Synography.
Class work: Concept development.
The group worked to put the finishing touches onto the presentation of our concept for next week. we also further discussed the composition of the work and brainstormed further ideas that may impact the work. My role for week 7 was to prepare the budget, investigate furniture construction techniques and think of some different materials that we may use to create the work. Me and lana also worked to finalise the measurements for the ottomons and decided on the amount of timber needed to create our structures.

I also found this structure of an acrylic box with plants inside it in the david jones window in the city which got the group thinking of some other ideas of how to get the message of "out of the pot plant into the public" across without being to literal.
